Dave Schuster is an undergraduate at the elite island University of Halcyon (pronounced HAL-see-un). A physics experiment on a new force field, sponsored by the Department of Defense, miscarries and catapults the university into a new world. Charles O’Reilly, the University Chancellor and Dave’s maternal uncle works diligently to help the university survive the critical early weeks in a new world as their food and supplies run out. During the exploration of the nearby mainland, they find that the new world is uncannily similar to the world they left but also has some terrifying differences. As the critical university food and logistical shortages are met, a political faction within the university, led by Darwin Blackmore see the dislocation crisis and catastrophe as an opportunity to reconfigure the university into their own idea of a Utopian society. With O’Reilly’s election defeat, Dave finds himself more and more at odds with the new university hierarchy. As part of an exploration expedition Dave discovers that they are not alone when they find a deserted city – or is it deserted? To find out more, read a sample chapter or buy The Halcyon Dislocation.
